The client
The Client was a cooperative of Montgomery County and the City of Montgomery, Alabama. Calibre-S2o was the project lead who coordinated all of the subcontractors including architecture, landscape architecture, aquatic/water quality, civil, structural, mechanical and whitewater/swiftwater rescue design.
What we did
Calibre-S2o design lead is a partner in RapidBlocs and delivered the entire project. RapidBlocs supplied the obstacles for both the recreational and competition channels as well as for the adjustable freestyle feature. The project has areas that utilize the RapidBlocs system to undertake swiftwater rescue training on vehicles, a low-head dam feature, and in a variety of configurations for scenarios such as strainers, self rescue, ropes rescue, etc.
The world’s most advanced whitewater channel system needs the world’s most advanced obstacle system. The Montgomery Whitewater Park is the world’s latest , and one of the world’s largest, whitewater parks. The venue utilizes concrete groyne’s placed by physical modeling with wave features and eddies tuned and optimized using the RapidBlocs Obstacle system. One unique feature of this park is the adjustable freestyle venue right at the outflow of the pump station allowing freestyle athletes to tune and change the hydraulic to their desired configuration without having raft traffic interrupting their rides! This venue has already hosted a number of major events including the US Olympic Team Trials and several freestyle and boater-cross events.
