The client was a joint venture group of Rapid Water Courses Ltd (Meldrum Construction, EPD and Hill Cannon). The Scheme was for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service and is a Flood Water Rescue training venue near Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
Main contractor was Felix O’Hare for the entire venue.
What we did
EPD as design lead for the venue and a partner in RapidBlocs, provided the entire design for the flood rescue venue, as well as the installation and commissioning of the RapidBlocs system.
The worlds most advanced obstacle system allows the channel system to deliver first class quality training. The flexibility of the system allows multiple scenarios and sets to be formed from the basic and economic channel set up. The RapidBlocs marry to the flow control by the main pumps to offer differing water conditions ranging from shallow sheeting flow through to deeper slower water for swimming and un-powered craft exercises.
A weir arrangement can also be quickly produced to expose trainees to a deep recirculating hydraulic feature and allow first hand experience in a safer training environment.
The venue is providing world leading training in an amazing and flexible water environment.
